I AM A BACP ACCREDITED MEMBER AND A FULLY QUALIFIED RELATE TRAINED COUNSELLOR

Relate Trained Counsellor MBACP (Accred), PGDiP, UAD

I have over 15 year's experience working with couples, children and young people aged 11-18 years, including those with Autism and ADHD, Families and Individuals.  It is easy at times to feel overwhelmed with life, including our relationships, work stress and seemingly unmanageable emotions, or perhaps at times feeling nothing at all.  Deciding to come to counselling can be the first step towards trying to take charge of your life and begin to care more for yourself.

"Never regret a day in your life: good days give happiness, bad days give experience, worst days give lessons, and best days give memories.  Every day may not be good, but there's something good in every day."

RELATIONSHIP COUNSELLING

"Sometimes when things are falling apart, they may actually be falling into place"

Do you feel like you are always rowing or that you are unable to communicate in a helpful way with your partner?  Relationship Counselling can offer support with managing the difficult areas in all relationships such as conflict, communication and how to balance spending time together or apart or the build up of resentments.

Relationship counselling can also help find new ways to connect with each other.  We can discuss and explore not only the areas and reasons for conflict but also how you manage this; looking at how much time and energy is invested in your relationship and how you would like your future relationship to be.  Relationship counselling can also help with managing life after an affair and at other crucial life stages such as the birth of a baby or retirement, all of which can have a huge impact on your relationship.

If you are considering separation or your relationship has ended, we can look at managing painful emotions and finding hope and a new way forward.

COUNSELLING FOR CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS 11 TO 18 YEARS

Every Action is a Communication and an Invitation to Respond....

Children often have to deal with many difficult life situations including bullying or exam stress at school, or complex family issues at home such as illness, parent's conflict, separation, bereavement or divorce.  This can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression and sometimes extremes of anger or sadness.

Children often show their emotions in their behaviour which can be challenging and confusing to others, such as self harm, not eating, outbursts of anger or perhaps sleeplessness or school avoidance, but is often their way of communicating their feelings and upset without using words.

Counselling can offer space for children to explore these difficult emotions and find resilience and confidence to begin to deal with their anxieties and fears and try to understand what is at the root of their anxieties or behaviour without fear of criticism or being judged.

COUNSELLING FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE WITH AUTISM OR ADHD

A Child is like a butterfly in the wind.  Some can fly higher than others, but each one flies the best it can.

I have worked for over 11 year's now at several specialist school provisions for children with Autistic Spectrum Condition supporting children and young people over the age of 11 who have autism or adhd.  I have also supported college students with ASC and ADHD to manage the difficulties they may experience in further education.

I work in a creative and practical way to try to understand, and more importantly help them understand their anxieties and fears which may be exhibited as very angry and challenging behaviour, or sometimes avoidance of certain situations and people such as emotionally based school avoidance.

Together we try to work on understanding what may trigger their emotional outbursts or overwhelm and develop and increase their coping strategies to improve their self confidence and ability to express their feelings in a safer way.  Enabling them to move forwards with resilience and hope and increased confidence to deal with life rather than avoid the problems. I also work on a Calm Pack with some children which they can take away as a practical reminder of helpful interventions we have explored.
